I've been training with Tyne Valley Martial Arts for three years, focusing solely on the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) class rather than the striking and stand-up classes. Many members who attend the striking sessions stay on afterward to join the BJJ class, creating a strong sense of community across disciplines. This club is incredibly welcoming to everyone, with members of all backgrounds and ages—from as young as 13—regularly attending sessions on Mondays and Thursdays at Bellingham Town Hall. Women are warmly welcomed, and we have a supportive mix of male and female members training together. Some dedicated members even travel from as far as Allendale and Conset, highlighting the club’s supportive and inclusive atmosphere. Initially, I joined to gain self-defense skills, but it quickly turned into something much more—an enjoyable and social experience. Everyone has their own reasons for joining, but it’s easy to relax knowing that we’re all here to learn and grow together (even if some techniques can be frustrating at first!). The instruction is consistently excellent. The coaches are highly experienced and often organize exclusive seminars featuring top athletes from around the world, giving members the chance to learn from some of the best. More details can be found on their website. As a not-for-profit club, Tyne Valley Martial Arts also supports members interested in competing by assisting with trips to both national and international events. From my perspective, I wholeheartedly recommend this club to anyone—whether you’re interested in self-defense, building confidence, or training for competition. Tyne Valley Martial Arts is a place where everyone can thrive and feel at home.

TVMA is a great club. I joined recently with zero martial arts experience. It’s awesome learning about boxing, kickboxing and BJJ in one place. The instruction is excellent, the sessions are fun and challenging and the group is friendly and welcoming. I get a lot of help from my training partners who are very patient and knowledgeable. Recommend it to anyone at any level

Tvma is a great place to train regardless of your goals. The team is made up of some of the most friendly people that ive have ever trained with in my 13 years of training and competing. Coach Alex is easily one of the most talented and experienced coaches I have worked with over the years. All experience levels are welcome to join and everyone makes a great effort to making everyone feel comfortable. The hardest part of getting involved with combat sports is going for the first time.. (everyone has to do it)but once you've taken the first step through the door you will realise how much you have been missing out on .. There is also a kids kickboxing class on as well, an hour before the adults class and seating is provided. So even if you just bring your child/children for the kids class and see how much fun they are having it might just make you realise how martial arts and combat sports are for everyone.
