I strongly believe training in some kind of martial arts should be a given on every kid’s schedule . ALL martial arts provide a solid structure and foundation to support a child’s physical and mental health, so it’s a matter of finding the right martial art that suits your child best. With this belief I looked around and found a perfect place “Serenity Jiu Jitsu at North Shields. My grandson Jacob has been attending for over 8 months now and I must say, it is by far the best Jiu Jitsu club I have come across. Teaching is delivered at a highly skilled level with a friendly environment. Professionalism and discipline being embedded throughout. Serenity Jiu Jitsu is a great place in a perfect location with easy access to parking - always a plus. I would definitely recommend this club to everyone who is thinking about starting martial arts. It's a professional and friendly place with brilliantly trained instructors. My grandson Jacob really loves this place which is a great place for building children's confidence, resilience and assertiveness. Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that utilises leverage, therefore enabling a smaller person to overcome heavier. My little grandson Jacob is trying to implement this principle on his trainer Ricky. Thank you guys for making Jacob happy every time he attends the training session.

Awful staff. Practically got bullied into signing up for a membership, this was after being shown around and told not to waste their time. First session I wasn't introduced to anyone. Got told to go sit down and wait for the instructor. Then I had to find a partner who clearly didn't want to train with the new guy. The instructor was arrogant and very unhelpful. Despite all this I was willing to give it another go. On the next day my shifts changed at work and I was unable to attend any of the sessions I wanted to. I explained this to Joe (the staff member who took a huff when I wanted to think about signing up), I got more of the same as our original meeting, very aggressive, unhelpful. Very money orientated. I even agreed to pay for the first month which was £100, Despite only having one lesson. Again, very unhelpful. This was 3 years ago and they're still trying to set up direct debits to my bank account to this day, so beware before joining up. There's better places to train than serenity. To be honest I wasn't going to write a review, but the fact it's been two years and they're still trying to charge me £300 for one lesson is beyond pathetic. *edit* It's the kind of pathetic response I was expecting. Then the influx of good reviews from non-members, on the same say I post mine 🤣. Don't worry, I've posted the review on plenty other sites to help me get over this emotional time. *Edit again* All the negative reviews are the same. They're all about your pathetic attitude. Could be a really good place to train, if it was ran by different people. Shame that. Nothing whiny about my replies at all, if anything your replies are the ones that are ridiculous. Which furthermore proves my point.

My son (now 7) was introduced to Serenity Jiu Jitsu through their regular 'parent and child' classes. It was a great way to ease him into the sport and we both thoroughly enjoyed those classes. Before signing up, I was given the opportunity to look around the facilities, meet some of the coaches and complete through an induction interview, (why are we looking to sign up, is my son looking to compete, what is the family background in sport) nothing too taxing, but a great way for the coaches to understand what we wanted to gain from signing up. My son is now in the children's classes and attends at least 3 regular sessions a week (often more), is signed up to the additional competitin classes and competes in a range of tournaments. The coaching team are a great bunch and this extends to the kids in the classes, the willingness to help younger and/or less experienced kids to develop is great to see. With very few egos, it means my son gets to spa with kids of a similar age and ability as well see him mix it up, on the odd occasion, with 15yo advanced belts... all in a very safe environment (yes they go easy on him and he still thinks he wins!) I believe the culture of the gym enables the kids to learn safely and quickly. My son and I are thrilled he signed up and expect it to continue for years to come.
