I’ve been training here this year and I was new to martial arts. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful from the coaches to the students at all levels. A great place to be, and I wish I had started sooner.

Having moved to the Somerset area 18 months ago after a long time living in Asia, I really was not sure what I would find to continue training Muay Thai which has been a personal hobby and passion for me for over 20 years. Despite not being an accomplished competitive fighter, I’ve been fortunate to train at gyms in Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan. I was very surprised and excited when I came across the Gracie Barra Academy in Street and went to try a class. It’s always intimidating, no matter how long you have been training, walking through the doors of a new gym. I had also decided to begin Jiu Jitsu as well as Muay Thai training. You could therefore say I was seeing the programs through the eyes of both a beginner and an experienced practitioner at the same time in each respective discipline. I tried classes in both and was immediately made to feel comfortable, as well as it being very clear that the academy is run professionally, encouraging hard training, safe training, respect amongst all levels of age and experience, as well as with a great sense of fun. Professor Richard and Paula keep a great relationship with, and are very dedicated to everyone in this academy community. Many of the people who train at GB Street have been here a long time which is a testament to the environment they have created. It is not cliquey and everyone is always treated with equal welcome the moment they walk through the door. The team at GB Street work very hard to help those students that want to compete, travelling far and wide with students to tournaments and preparing them for fights. They bring in regular world renowned experts from across Jiu Jitsu and striking disciplines which is a depth of experience I never expected to find in the quiet world of Somerset. Whether you want to focus on competing, technique or a fun way to stay fit and enjoy the community and spirit of martial arts, there is a place for you here. As well as my own training, i will also enrol my children into the very active tiny champion and youth programs at GB Street - i come from an education background and have also been really impressed with how seriously safeguarding is taken for all minors at the GB Street Academy. I would highly recommend training at GB Academy in Street for anyone, beginner or advanced, young or old, parent or practitioner.

Such a great club, so welcoming and friendly. Everyone who trains and the coaches are really nice and helpful. My 13 year old son has been attending trainings for one and a half years, and I can honestly say this has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in terms of child development. In Element 22, the coaches not only teach martial arts but also teach important skills such as discipline, resilience and teamwork. If you are thinking about starting doing martial arts, I recommend Element 22.
