Head Instructor: Chris Lacy
London Ju Jitsu is a Japanese martial art that employs a series of throws, strikes, chokes and joint locks to control and subdue an aggressor. It is an effective form of self-defence that can be learned by anyone of any age or sex. It is also the origin of many other popular combat sports, such as Judo or BJJ. Founded in 2002, we teach traditional self-defence techniques, passed down through the generations whilst adapted for the context of the modern age. Men's Fitness Magazine rated Ju Jitsu as "Absolutely the best Martial Art for Self-Defence."

Great club, great sport. I joined after losing interest with boxing, the gym and various other sports clubs, but found this far more interesting and varied, and great exercise. And everyone so friendly and welcoming. Excellent value for a London martial arts class too!

I decided to attend a free class at London Ju Jitsu, just to get a feel for what it was all about. Fast forward 3 months, and I haven't missed a single class. I've even reorganized my life to make room for it because I've become completely hooked. But what, you may wonder, has me so captivated? While the martial art and the curriculum are already impressive, it's the club and its members that truly shine. Many people can fight, but teaching is a whole different ball game, and at London Ju Jitsu, they excel at both. Sensei Dan, who runs the Tooting Club, along with several other black belts, aren't just fantastic teachers but also masters of their craft. This culture of excellence has been passed down through generations, and club members readily follow suit. As a white belt (beginner), I always felt that those around me had walked this path before and were eager to assist me at every turn. If you've ever considered delving into the world of martial arts, especially Ju Jitsu, and you're uncertain about your fitness level, how you'll be welcomed, or your potential skills, let me put your mind at ease. This is a welcoming community that not only helps you grow as an individual but also ensures you're an integral part of this community, regardless of your starting point. First class is free, give it a try, you won't regret it.

Been a member for four years. Excelllent experience throughout the club, with multiple senseis (black belts/instructors) more than happy to give their time to teach. We've had several female members make it all the way to black belt and beyond, which can be a rarity elsewhere in other clubs. Great comradery amongst the students and an brilliant/engaging way to keep fit. Club is diverse, and welcoming to all.
